Welcome to my website. I am delighted to share with you the information, stories, documents and events it has been my privilege to explore and write about to date.
I have been overwhelmed by the response to my books from The Tattooist of Auschwitz to now.
I had the unconditional support from my family who got to know and love Lale Sokolov and hung in there with me for many years as I looked for ways to tell his and Gita’s story. To embark upon writing my second historical fiction novel, this time based on Cilka’s story required me to leave the comfort of my family and home and spend time in Slovakia where Cilka was born, before she was taken to Auschwitz – finally returning in 1956 after her release from Vorkuta Gulag.
From the experiences I was fortunate to have through the writing these books, I was honoured to bring you my first non-fiction collection of stories – Stories of Hope. I have received thousands of emails from around the world, filled with personal stories from readers about their lives, loves, losses and learnings. And this inspired me to write about the art of listening.
I then had the privilege to write two more historical fiction novels: Three Sisters, sharing the story of the incredible, brave Mellor sisters and Sisters under the Rising Sun inspired by the lives of the extraordinary Nesta and Norah. It was an honour to be entrusted by the families of these incredible women to tell their stories.
Now, the book that started it all for me, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, has been given new life on screen and I couldn’t be prouder of what has been achieved with this TV series.
“Sisters under the Rising Sun is a heart-breaker, heart-healer and all-round heart-stirrer of a story about making unimaginable choices in order to survive the unimaginable.”
"Heather Morris does a superb job ... heartbreaking, agonizing and even distressing at times. You feel the words Morris writes, and they hurt ... Morris does the survivors justice, sharing their stories and exhibiting their strength and determination to make it back to their families."
“Heather Morris has fast built her credentials as a ‘warrior for remembrance’, retelling these tales of hope and survival … an exultant celebration of family love and the irrepressible will to survive. Three Sisters is a heartbreaking yet uplifting and triumphant tale.”
“The story unfolds in a deft and agile manner. The heightened suspense is sustained with remarkable skilfulness … Again, we find compelling characters involved in unspeakable circumstances, dialogue that runs thrifty across pages, scenes that depict images in the readers’ minds that are vivid and absorbing.”
